For nearly ten years, six apartments on the 17th floor sat almost untouched.
The building was in the Grogan’s Mill area of The Woodlands, Texas. It had 86 apartments, but something about those six units made people leave.
It usually started at night.
Residents heard scratching in walls at night. Sometimes it came from the ceiling. Sometimes from behind kitchen cabinets.
Food packages were found torn open. Dark marks appeared in corners. Objects seemed to move while everyone slept.
Then another.
Before long, people were calling it a haunted apartment floor.
The fear grew after a young couple died there. The man was found hanging inside one apartment. The woman fell from a balcony.
After that, every unexplained sound seemed to have an explanation.
People living above and below the floor reportedly became uncomfortable too. The strange noises in walls at night continued. Years passed. Dust collected. Spiderwebs filled forgotten corners.
Then an elderly couple moved in.
The apartment was cheap. They needed an affordable home and did not care much about old stories.
At first.
Then they heard it too.
Movement.
Something inside the walls.
One night, the 86-year-old woman finally had enough.
Instead of hiding, she followed the sound.
She moved stored items, checked the corners and looked behind places that had been ignored for years.
What she found
Dozens of them.
She reportedly trapped close to 40.

The haunted building suddenly had a much less supernatural explanation.
What homeowners can take from the story
A serious rodent infestation can create scratching sounds, damaged food, droppings and movement inside hidden spaces. These can also be signs of rats in walls. If noises keep returning, document when and where they happen, check accessible areas for physical signs, and consider qualified rodent control if the source cannot be safely identified.
So if your home in The Woodlands starts making mysterious noises after midnight, a paranormal investigator may not need to be your first call.
